No. 276 Nude at the Beach

I chose a beach—an open space with a wide stretch of white sand. Once again today, dressed in an embarrassing outfit, I walk slowly across the sand rather than along the water’s edge. With beachgoers scattered here and there, just imagining how out of place I look makes my face flush. But those stares actually feel good, and I can’t bring myself to stop walking. When I passed by the fitting rooms, I locked eyes with someone coming out and froze for a moment, but I kept walking anyway. The sand clings to the soles of my feet, and the scratchy sound it makes with every step feels strangely real—a reminder that this isn’t my everyday life. The scent of the ocean and the sea breeze seem to envelop my embarrassment. Maybe next time I’ll try going into the water. If your “like” gives me the courage to do it.
